Studio Pottery Lion Planter Signed Slaye 1975 Stoneware

Whimsical hand-built studio pottery lion planter / pencil holder, incised "Slaye 75" to the verso-a charming slice of 1970s American craft-fair folk art. The hand-sculpted king of beasts sports a wonderfully textured extruded-clay mane (the classic garlic-press technique) and cream-glazed sneakers as he leans casually against a slab-built pot. Approx. 7"H x 7.5"W. Stoneware with applied eyes. Minor glaze flaking to rim and soles, kiln grit, felt pads underneath; no cracks. Irresistibly quirky.
